The Composition

POLYVERSE's original musical composition will blend a variety of cultural influences and religious traditions, bringing forward a message of peace, respect, and understanding across different religious and cultural backgrounds.

MEET THE COMPOSERS

Our interfaith composition will be the result of a cross-border collaboration by three selected composers

Maria Beatrice Orlando 

Born in 1991 her works have been performed on numerous national and international occasions. In 2024 she wrote the poem symphony Fango, commissioned by the orchestra of the FVG. The opera Crucis Verba - Lucia Joyce and dance on Ulysses was staged in April 2023 at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca and in June 2024 at the gardens of the Museo Sartorio in Trieste, on the occasion of the Bloomsday festival dedicated to James Joyce.

In May 2022, she collaborated in the show "Through Pasolini", for commission of the Association Orchestra and Choir San Marco of Pordenone. She has composed several chamber pieces performed by ensembles and FVG soloists in the region and abroad (Le PiCS ensemble, wind quintet Anemos, Agnese Toniutti).

She collaborated as arranger for the Festival della Canzone Friulana, edition 2017, under supervision of M. Valter Sivilotti.

 

She has published “A simple manual of harmony” for Edikit-Pizzicato Verlag Helvetia.

She attended masterclasses and courses with composers of international fame: Caroline Shaw, Luis Bacalov, Strobl, Febel, Colla, Bavdek, Bulfon and Cutler.

Graduated in composition at the Conservatory "Tomadini" of Udine with the masters Renato Miani and Mario Pagotto and in piano at the Conservatory "Tartini" of Trieste with m° Luca Trabucco.

Sakis Negrin

Sakis Negrin was born in Ioannina-Greece in 1959, where he began his studies in guitar and mandolin with P. Parthenios and later with P. Voulgaris. When he moved to Athens to study Architecture, he continued his musical education in Advanced Music Theory with V. Makridis. He also studied Choral Conducting with M. Patseas, director of the Kodály Conservatory in Athens. He has worked for many years as a performer on guitar, bass, and mandolin in orchestras as well as smaller ensembles, engaging with almost all musical genres.

He founded and conducted the "Mikri Chorodia" (Small Choir), a 12-member vocal ensemble with numerous performances to its credit. With this group, he participated in the production of the LP "Cyprus Everliving" (Kýpros Aeízoi), which featured renowned artists such as John Modinos, Andreas Andreou, and others. In 1999, he arranged and produced a CD of Sephardic songs with the same choir. Two years later, he produced a double CD of psalms from both the Romaniote and Sephardic traditions.

He also founded and directed the Choir of the Athens Jewish Synagogue, which has been active for many years and has performed both in Greece and abroad. This choir performs hymns and songs from the Greek Jewish musical tradition (Romaniote and Sephardic), arranged by him for a mixed four-part choir.

He has also done musical arrangements for various ensembles and string quartets.
He has given numerous concerts focusing mainly on Sephardic and Romaniote songs.
He has also participated in several interviews and podcasts, both on public and private radio, on this subject.

He is a graduate of the School of Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), a profession he practiced until 2009.
Since then, he has been the Director of the Community (formerly Spiritual) Center of the Jewish Community of Athens.

Aaron Dan

Aaron Dan was born in 1981 into a Romanian-Hungarian family of musicians in Transylvania, Romania. At the age of 15, he and his brother moved to Budapest, Hungary, where he studied at the Bartók Conservatory. After graduating from high school, he studied flute in Berlin and Paris, as well as instrumental composition in Weimar/Germany.

Aaron Dan performs internationally as a soloist, composer, chamber musician, and presenter. He has won several competitions, including the 2005 "The Winner of Belgrade" flute competition. In 2013, the ensemble Berlin Counterpoint, which he co-founded, was awarded the Usedom Music Prize and has since toured many important concert halls, including the Kammermusiksaal of the Berlin Philharmonic, Rheingau Music Festival, Palau de Musica Valencia, Paax Fest Mexico City, the Rockefeller University NYC, Sao Paolo, New Orleans University, Istanbul Music Festival and many more.
 

Aaron Dan's extensive compositional oeuvre includes musical theater, orchestral and choral works, chamber music, songs, works for solo instruments, and compositions for instruments and loudspeakers or Loop Station. His opera "Le Petit Prince" was created in 2016. He composed an alphabetical cycle on Bach for J. S. Bach's 333rd birthday 2018. In 2021, he composed BABEL, a sound installation for 42 loudspeakers, and, 2024, LUX AETERNA for mixed choir with period and modern instruments. The new version of "Im Anfang war das Wort" for large orchestra and mixed choir will be performed at Konzerthaus Freiburg in November 2025.
 

Aaron Dan lives as a freelance flautist and composer with his family in Berlin.
